What about tennis?

Today's post is a story about how Anne gave some advice.  It comes from my dad (Mark), the third child of Emmett and Anne:

In 1960 we moved to Syracuse. Mom and Dad did this so they would not need to pay for room and board for the five of us to attend college. Mom taught English at Levy Junior High School and Dad started teaching at West Genesee Junior High School.

I started at Nottingham High School as a junior. I had played baseball at Copenhagen but when I got to Nottingham the baseball coach told me that he already had a second baseman from the previous year. At the dinner table I told the family that I would not be playing baseball.  Mom replied, "There are other sports, like tennis."  I said, "I don't know how to score tennis, much less play it." She told me she could explain the scoring.  I asked, "How do you know tennis?" She calmly stated, "I was the women's tennis champion in Syracuse."  Wow.  She then had Dad go to the attic at the Seeley Road house and get her high school racket.  I did not end up using her racket, but I did try out for tennis in March and played for Nottingham for two years.
